Jessica Chutter

Keynote Opening Remarks

Jessica Chutter is the recently retired Vice Chair of Investment Banking and Chair of Biotechnology at Morgan Stanley. During Ms. Chutter's 30+ year career of building Morgan Stanley's Biotechnology Franchise, she has been responsible for $80 billion of capital raising and $85 billion of strategic transactions. Jessica is focused on company-building, examples of which include raising $3 billion for Moderna (4 offerings), $1.4 billion for GW (6 offerings), $2.3 billion for BeOne Medicines (5 offerings) and $1 billion for Rhythm (6 offerings). Strategic transactions include advising Agios in its Oncology Business sale to Servier, Galapagos in its $5.1 billion partnership with Gilead and Company sales of Clementia, Cubist, Pharmasset and Elan. She has also been involved in the creation of a new asset class involving royalty-backed debt (PhaRMA) where over $30 billion has been raised.

Ms. Chutter has a BA in Commerce/Honours Economics from McGill University and an MBA from Harvard Business School. Ms. Chutter is a director of Toronto Innovation Acceleration Partners and a member of the Board of Trustees of The Hospital for Sick Children ("SickKids"). She resides in Toronto with her husband, Derek Berghuis, and has three adult children — Andrew, Jennifer and Kevin.

Jay was named to Canada’s Top 40 Under 40 and awarded the E&Y Entrepreneur of the Year. He is a member of Young Presidents’ Organization (YPO) and Benefactor on the Canadian Olympic Committee.

In his personal life, Jay enjoys family time, golfing, traveling, cooking, collecting Nike sneakers, and giving back to the community.
